Traffic on Amidon at 25th Street North is restricted to one lane in each direction due to the collapse of a 54-year old sanitary sewer line. The City of Wichita’s Sewer Maintenance Division has placed pumps around the collapse which has allowed sanitary sewer service to continue.
The collapse was first reported the morning of Tuesday June 22. There is no indication of the exact cause of the sewer line collapse. However the age of the line is believed to have been a factor.
The eight-inch diameter line is approximately 14 feet below the surface. City sewer maintenance crews report 25 feet of the line will need to be replaced. They do not have the shoring equipment required to reinforce the size of this excavation. A contractor will be hired as soon as possible to do the work. Traffic will be restricted to one lane on Amidon until repairs are completed.
