The media is invited to Mid-Continent Airport Tuesday, Sept. 28, to cover the World War II Veterans who are departing on the Central Prairie Honor Flight.
About 170 veterans and their guides will fly to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II Memorial. Media representatives who wish to interview and/or record from the concourse departure area should plan to meet at the Information Desk at 5:30 a.m. to be escorted to gate 6. The flight is scheduled to depart at 7 a.m. Media will follow security procedures used at the security checkpoint and stay with airport escorts at all times.
The media is also invited to cover the Honor Flight upon its return on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Members of the media who wish to record the arriving aircraft from the aircraft parking ramp area should meet at the Airport Public Safety Building, 2193 Air Cargo Road, at 6:15 p.m. to be escorted to the ramp. A “water cannon salute” by the Airport Authority’s fire trucks is planned for the returning flight scheduled at 7 p.m.
A brief welcome home reception will be held at the west end of the ticket counter area following the contingent’s arrival on Sept. 29. The media is welcome to attend the reception. After the water cannon salute, media will be escorted to the terminal for the reception.
Media coming to Mid-Continent for the arrival and/or departure may park in one of the designated “Media Parking” spaces in Parking Lot A, Parking Lot B, or the Airport Administration/Public Safety Building parking lot. Media may not park on the curb-side of the terminal building. Prior arrangements may be made for “live feed” vehicles in this area if necessary.
Media representatives must call the Airport Authority at 946-4700 by 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, to advise of their attendance at either event.
