Tonight is the second round of public meetings designed to help determine which programs and services should be provided at City of Wichita recreation facilities. Meetings are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today and Thursday at different facilities listed below. Residents are encouraged to attend, and childcare will be provided.

The public meetings will help shape the future of the Park and Recreation Department after $1 million in budget reductions to the department’s recreation programs. The meetings began last Thursday.

“There was good turnout and helpful feedback that will help us determine which services are important to residents who use or want to use these facilities,” said Doug Kupper, Director of the Department of Park and Recreation.” These meetings will help us develop a plan for providing relevant programs and services at neighborhood recreation centers.”

The public meetings provide background information on each recreation facility and roundtable discussions about which recreation center services should be offered. Topics include classes, building usage, fees, operational hours and new services. Organizers include officials from Wichita State University’s Hugo Wall School of Urban & Public Affairs.
