September passenger traffic at Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport increased 5.97 percent over September 2009, marking the biggest September on record in terms of passengers.
Total number of passengers flying in and out of Wichita in September was 132,310. The previous September record occurred in 2007 with 125,881 total passengers. For the year, passenger traffic is up 2.59 percent over 2009.
“Even though airlines have reduced the number of available seats, we are now seeing increased demand for air travel, and airlines returning to profitability,” said Valerie Wise, Air Service and Business Development Manager.
The increased passenger traffic is a positive sign for the Wichita airport, said Dwight Greenlee, chairman of the Wichita Airport Advisory Board.
“I am cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue into next year as the economy improves and business travel increases,” he said.
