The Wichita Toy Run charity parade will follow its traditional route along Broadway on Sunday, City of Wichita officials announced on Wednesday.
The annual event, which starts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium and ends at the Kansas Coliseum, traditionally followed Broadway much of the way to the Coliseum. Bridge construction had forced an alternate route.
The Wichita Police Department and other area officers will assist the parade by blocking east-west traffic at primary intersections along the route and escorting riders to the Coliseum donation area. Riders should ride with caution through 21st and Broadway due to ongoing street construction.
Toy Run donations help the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots and the Kansas Food Bank. The event started 30 years ago with about 30 riders and has grown to about 3,300 riders last year.
