Eligibility Covers Four-County Area

Nominations for the second annual Metro Wichita Clean Air Awards are now being accepted by the City of Wichita Air Quality Improvement Task Force.

The Clean Air & Sustainability Awards recognize companies, non-profit groups and individuals who are taking steps to help reduce air pollution and emissions in the urban area.

The efforts are significant because the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is currently at risk of falling out of compliance with federal air quality standards. The Environmental Protection Agency EPA recently revised the federal ozone standard, and the MSA is close to violating this new standard.

Entries are welcome from metro area businesses, organizations, community groups and individuals that have contributed to improving air quality in the four-county metro area including Butler, Harvey, Sedgwick, and Sumner counties. A panel of judges from local and state government, business, and the private sector will select the winners. Application deadline is Dec. 31.

Clean Air & Sustainability Award recipients will be recognized in a public ceremony on Jan. 28 at the 2011 Regional Energy Conference and Fair at the WSU Hughes Metroplex. They will also be featured in newsletters and on City7, the City’s Cox Communications cable channel. More information about the 2011 Energy Conference can be found at www.greenwichita.org.

Completed applications can be mailed to Maurice Terrebonne, City of Wichita, Environmental Health Air Quality Specialist, 1900 E. 9th Street, Wichita, KS, 67214. They may be emailed to mterrebonne@wichita.gov or faxed to 316-268-8390.

Applications and general guidelines can be viewed and printed from the City’s website at Wichita.gov. For more information, contact Maurice Terrebonne 268-8301.
