Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer delivered his 2011 State of the City Address to a packed City Council Chambers today at City Hall, 455 N. Main. In his fourth annual address, Brewer cited 2010 successes amid a struggling local and national economy, including streamlining City government, collaborating to protect and stabilize jobs and coming together to care for the “less fortunate, the unemployed, the hungry and the homeless.”

“One of my priorities as Mayor has been the “No More Hungry Kids” campaign,” Brewer said. “It is unacceptable to have children in this city who are unable to concentrate in school or who go to bed hungry because they have not had enough to eat…Through our efforts, we raised $33,004 and fed 5,698 hungry children through the school year.”

Brewer said City government had reduced its budget by $9 million over the past two years, identified more cost-effective ways to deliver services and has become more open and accessible. He announced the launching of a new customer call center, which allows residents to call W-I-C-H-I-T-A (942-4482) during business hours to register concerns, seek resolutions to problems or get general information about the City.

The Mayor’s address was aired live on Cox Cable Channel 7 and streamed live at www.wichita.gov. The speech is attached and available at the City’s Web site.
