Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams on Wednesday held a news conference regarding a police officer charged with one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count sexual battery. The officer allegedly had inappropriate contact with a resident while on duty early Sunday morning, Feb. 27.
The officer involved will be suspended today without pay pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings, being handled by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. The Wichita Police Department does not comment on details of a case after formal charges have been filed.
“The Wichita Police Department has an obligation and responsibility to investigate alleged crimes in our community,” Williams said. “Maintaining public safety and the public’s trust are the highest priorities for this department.”
