The City of Wichita Public Works & Utilities Department will hold a community planning meeting from 6:30- 8:30 p.m, Thursday at the Horace Mann Dual Language Magnet School, 1243 N. Market.

Residents are invited to come and learn about master planning efforts for the historic Midtown neighborhood. At the meeting, community members will be able to learn more about stormwater issues, as well as traffic options that could potentially change the directions of traffic and allow for features such as bike lanes. Rain gardens, widened sidewalks and bus shelter concepts are among other ideas to be discussed.

Boundaries for the study are Murdock Street, Santa Fe Street, 18th Street and the Little Arkansas River.

“This plan is expected to provide a vision for the continual expansion and improvement of the core area of Wichita,” said Wichita City Council Member Janet Miller, who represents District VI which includes Midtown. “We hope people attend the community meeting and provide input.”

This will be the second of three community meetings designed to seek ideas about priorities in Midtown for the coming years. The final meeting is scheduled for May. The master plan is expected to be completed by summer.
