Philanthropic Trends Topic of Thursday Lecture

The City of Wichita will host a lecture on “Philanthropic Trends” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 14 in Century II Mary Jane Teall Theater, 225 W. Douglas. National and local data will be presented to help supporters of the arts and individual arts organizations better target their fundraising efforts. This is the fourth of six presentations included in the City’s “Arts & Culture Industry Lecture Series.” It is free and open to the public.

Using data combed from a variety of sources, City of Wichita’s Arts & Cultural Services manager, John D’Angelo will provide specifics on:

  • The average size of businesses currently giving to the arts;
  • How arts donations rank among other causes (religion, education, human services, animals, etc.);
  • Donor profiles that suggest individuals now make up the largest portion of philanthropic givers;
  • The emergence of the “Millennials,” a group of young donors who are willing to support the arts but want to be engaged in different ways and couple their donations with volunteer opportunities;
  • How philanthropic gifts in the Wichita region compare to other areas of country;
  • Where money from grants and foundations is currently going;
  • The link between technology and successful fundraising campaigns.

The purpose of the Arts & Culture Industry Lecture Series is to bring the community together to discuss how local arts organizations and artists can successfully adapt to the changing arts environment. Lectures will continue throughout the summer and fall with remaining topics on: Building New Leadership and New Arts and Cultural Business Models. To learn more, go to, click on “Arts and Culture.”
