Mayor Carl Brewer and the Wichita City Council have joined the U.S. Senate in urging a unified public response to a “Moment of Remembrance” at 12 noon Sunday, Sept. 11.

In a proclamation issued Friday, the Mayor and Council called upon all Wichita citizens to note the event at 12 noon for one minute and “cease all work or other activity, fly the American flag and sound all bells, whistles, sirens, horns or other appropriate devices to signal we are united, strong and prepared.”

The proclamation responds to U.S. Senate Resolution 237 which established the Moment of Remembrance. The resolution was adopted this summer on a unanimous vote. U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts also issued a statement of support for the Moment of Remembrance, urging the Mayor to join the Senate in its action.

“No other event in our lifetime has called our country to such a unified response,” Mayor Brewer said. “The Wichita City Council urges every citizen of our community to stand together in recognition of the values and ideals that make the United States the greatest nation in the world.”
