The third annual Ryan Woodward Memorial Skate event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Ryan Woodward Memorial Skate Park inside Edgemoor Park, 5815 E. 9th Street. The event will include three levels of competition; beginners up to the age of 12; intermediate ages 13 to 17, and advanced ages 18 and up. Registration fees are $15 per skater the day of event.
Ryan was 15 years old when he was struck by a car on his way to the Edgemoor Skate Park in February of 2009.
“Ryan’s love was skateboarding,” Jeff Woodward, Ryan’s father said. “All his extra time went into promoting the sport and keeping the parks clean and safe for everyone to use.”
In memory of his son, Jeff Woodward established the annual skate competition to raise money toward installing lights at the skate park. Future fundraising efforts will go toward maintaining and improving other Wichita skate parks.
