Ribbon Cutting Today for Harry and Rock Road Improvements

11/14/2011
Gail Williams, Asst. to Director of Public Works | GWilliams@wichita.gov | (316) 268-4356

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. today at the southwest corner of Harry and Rock Road. Attendees should park to the west and south of the Cherry Creek Bank of America; bank parking is limited to customers only.

The $6 million project reconstructed three-quarters of a mile of Harry to provide four through-lanes and a continuous two-way left turn lane, east and west of Rock Road. Dual left-turn lanes in all four directions are now available at the intersection of Harry and Rock.

The project also included the construction of more than 4,000 feet of 42-inch and 30-inch water mains, to provide future capacity to and from a pump station at Harry and Governeour. Drainage improvements and right-of-way landscaping were also included. Work on the project began in March.

With more than 45,000 vehicles per day, Harry and Rock Road was the eighth busiest intersection in Wichita, based on 2010 traffic counts.
