Museum, gift shop open extended hours March 28

The Mid-America All-Indian Center invites the public to attend a special night of free activities and entertainment from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the center located at 650 N. Seneca.

The focus of the evening is on American Indian art. Visitors will have the opportunity to:

  • Visit the Indian Center Museum and Gift Shop. Both will be open extended hours from 6-8 p.m. Museum admission, which is usually $7 for adults, will be free for everyone. The Indian Center’s Gift Shop will unveil its new look and new merchandise – jewelry, dream catchers, sculptures and more – made by local artists. A new assortment of CDs featuring powwow and flute music is also for sale.
  • Attend the opening reception for the third annual USD 259 Title VII Native American Youth Art Show. This exhibit features nearly 100 two- and three-dimensional pieces created by American Indian children in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Participate in the “Share Our Culture” lecture from 7-9 p.m., in Buffalo Hall. The topic of the presentation is “Arts & Crafts” and how they are incorporated into powwows. This is the first of four consecutive month’s worth of lectures (held second and fourth Wednesdays) that focus on different aspects of powwows. The powwow lectures are one way the Indian Center is getting the public ready for its 2nd Annual American Indian Festival July 14-15 at Century II. The festival features a contest powwow, Indian Fine Art Market and Youth Art Show.
