In recognition of April being Financial Literacy Month, many financial education and awareness events are being planned including Money Smart Week, a collaboration focusing on personal financial literacy and featuring expert presenters from the financial industry, local consumer groups, non-profit organizations and government agencies.

Money Smart Week Wichita runs April 23 through 28, with opening events planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday at four locations listed below. Each location will offer free financial literacy resources and free pizza and soda to the first 100 attendees and a chance to win prizes including an iPad2 and Kindle Fire electronic readers. The Monday events will include Wichita City Council members and “How to Survive the Broken Economy,” an informative presentation on the top tips for saving money on everyday expenses. The locations are:

  • Atwater Neighborhood City Hall
    2755 E 19th St. North
  • Colvin Recreation Center
    2820 S. Roosevelt
  • Evergreen Recreation Center
    2700 N. Woodland
  • Downtown Senior Center
    200 S. Walnut

More than 40 events are planned throughout the week including presentations by some of the area’s best financial experts. The City of Wichita’s Career Development Office is a sponsor.

“Whether you need help building a budget, understanding basic financial products, talking to your kids about money or planning for retirement, Money Smart Week will meet your needs,” said Michelle Cole Rucker, Career Development Manager.
