Funds used to support video-on-demand training equipment

The Wichita Fire Department officials on Thursday announced a $46,000 donation to expand and enhance training opportunities for area firefighters.

The grant, awarded by IMA Inc. in partnership with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, will provide funding for video-on-demand equipment and technology that will enable firefighters to view training material from remote locations such as fire stations. This capability will help reduce travel expenses related to training exercises.

“We are grateful for this generous donation,” Wichita Fire Chief Ronald D. Blackwell said. “With this funding, we are able to purchase training materials that will help provide greater public safety for our residents and firefighters.”

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn-prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to nearly 1,800 different organizations totaling more than $29 million. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like IMA Inc., are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.
