City of Wichita officials on Wednesday announced plans to serve customers of Edgemoor and Country Acres pools, both of which will not open the upcoming swimming season due to structural and plumbing problems.
Park and Recreation Director Doug Kupper said the department will provide affected customers with discounted entry fees and shuttle rides to other municipal pools. Department officials will meet with neighborhood associations, parents and others in the affected areas to determine alternative swimming options and other assistance. The department will release more information later.
City officials decided today to close the Edgemoor and Country Acres pools after learning the sources of water loss that began during the 2011 summer swim season, Kupper said.
The department manages 11 total swimming pools across the city, so nine pools will remain available for the summer season. Daily admission fee for youth 17-and-under is $2, for adults 18-and-over $3. The Park and Recreation Department also offers annual swimming passes.
