Budget presentation will include DABs, WIN and social media
City of Wichita officials are inviting residents to attend a public meeting regarding the 2013-14 Proposed Budget at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the first floor Board Room at City Hall, 455 N. Main. The meeting will include District Advisory Boards (DABs) and Wichita Independent Neighborhoods (WIN) officials.
The budget presentation will feature a question-and-answer session. City department heads will attend to provide additional information. Residents who watch the live budget presentation on Cox Cable Channel 7 can email budget questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Residents are encouraged to email questions related to the proposed budget.
Also, for the first time, the City of Wichita will host two Twitter town hall meetings to enhance public engagement and transparency related to the 2013-14 Proposed Budget, a more than $500 million spending plan. The Twitter town hall meetings are scheduled for Thursday, June 28 and Wednesday, July 18. Residents should tweet budget questions using the hashtag #wichitabudget, where budget staffers will provide responses. Residents can also submit questions to the City of Wichita Facebook page.
The Wednesday budget presentation follows several City Council budget workshops, including one on Tuesday. After hearing from City Council members and residents, City Manager Robert Layton is scheduled to present his proposed budget during a City Council meeting on July 17. The City Council is scheduled to officially adopt the 2013-14 Proposed Budget at its Aug. 14 meeting.
