City officials to report on redistricting, Bicycle Master Plan
City of Wichita officials will present proposed City Council boundary changes and an update on the Bicycle Master Plan during a meeting scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
City Council appointees, known as the Commission of Electors (COE), have been reviewing boundary changes for several weeks as required every 10 years under Charter Ordinance 173. The review allows district populations to be adjusted under constitutional, equal-representation mandates following each 10-year census. The process for reviewing district boundaries began in July and must end before December 31, 2012. Redistricting requires new districts to be adjusted so that the population of each district is within 5% of the average district size reflected in census data.
In addition to the COE members, members of the City Council, District Advisory Boards and Wichita Independent Neighborhoods will attend the Wednesday evening meeting. To learn more about the COE and Charter Ordinance 173, please see a previous news release and other related materials at www.wichita.gov.
Following the redistricting issue, which will be presented by Planning Director, John Schlegel, Senior Planner Scott Wadle will provide the latest information on the 2012 City of Wichita Bicycle Master Plan.
