Wichita Fire Department Chief Ronald D. Blackwell announced on Wednesday that Elizabeth (Tammy) Snow has been promoted to Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Operations.

Snow, who joined the department in 1988, had served as Acting Deputy Fire Chief since October 2011. She joins Blackwell and Ronald Aaron, the Deputy Fire Chief for Support Services, on the WFD leadership team. Snow also is highest-ranking female firefighter in the 126-year history of the WFD. Known as Tammy, Snow has served as a WFD lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, and fire division chief shift commander.

“Tammy is one of the hardest working, conscientious and dedicated public safety servants I have ever known,” Blackwell said. “Her career in public safety has been stellar and I am very pleased to make this announcement.”

As Deputy Fire Chief of Emergency Operations, Snow will be responsible for the day-to-day direction of emergency services including medical emergencies, fires, hazardous materials, and rescue team operations. Her direction will be critical to the 12 battalion chiefs and 22 City fire stations.
