Wichita Park & Recreation hosted a ribbon-cutting today for the grand opening of Meridian Dog Park, 2127 N. Meridian. The park features drinking fountains including low ones for dogs, park benches, doggy doo bags and time out areas. The play areas are separated into three sections; two of the three areas will be open at any given time, designated by the size of dog. Large dogs over 25 lbs. may romp in one section, while smaller dogs under 25 lbs. will have their own area.
“Dog owners have anxiously awaited the opening of Meridian Dog Park and now many area dog owners and their dogs have a place close to home to run and play off-leash,“ said Vice Mayor Janet Miller. “This is the perfect location for the City’s third dog park, providing many west-side residents the opportunity to run and exercise their dogs while watching them play with new friends and old.”
The dog park also features the first eco-friendly park lot which uses a permeable paving system. Storm water is able to soak into the pavement instead of draining into the storm sewer system. It is a solution to help prevent storm water pollution.
Wichita Park & Recreation manages two of the three City dog parks, Meridian Dog Park and Arson Canine Ashley’s Memorial Dog Park, 2400 E. MacArthur Road. The Murfin Animal Care Campus Dog Park is located at 3313 N. Hillside.
