Wichita HoT (Hands on Training)

More than 200 firefighters from around the region will gather on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 for “Wichita Hot,” an annual training exercise hosted by the Wichita Fire Department (WFD).

“The mission of the Wichita HoT Regional Fire School is to deliver high quality, advanced, hands on training to the Fire Service,” WFD Chief Ronald D. Blackwell said. “WFD proudly employs some of the areas most talented fire instructors. This year, local trainers will be joined by several of the nation’s top instructors as they once again deliver the highest quality fire service training available in this part of the country.”

Register for 2012 Wichita Hot training on-line at www.wichitafire.org/hot. Class sizes are limited. For more information, please contact Deputy Chief Tammy Snow at ESnow@wichita.gov.

The 2012 Wichita HoT will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the WFD Regional Training Center with a keynote address from retired Lt. Bob Pressler, formerly of the New York City Fire Department and presently serving as the 1st Assistant Fire Chief for Montgomery, NY. Pressler has 39 years of fire service experience. Following the keynote address on Saturday, there will be classroom sessions in two-hour blocks presented by HoT instructors sharing their fire ground expertise in an open format with opportunities for participants to move around from session to session.

Sunday’s Hands on Training sessions will bring participants to the Regional Training Facility where they will learn techniques in engine company operations, truck company operations, vehicle extractions, tender operations, search techniques and forced structural entry. Classes fill up faster each year as word of this event continues to spread, with waiting lists for any openings that may occur.
