The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) has scheduled a neighborhood park cleanup event on Saturday, Nov. 17, at two area parks. The cleanup event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Wichita’s Oak Park and Sedgwick County Park.
MYC is comprised of more than 30 youth from Wichita area high schools who are interested in local government, volunteer activities and community service such as Saturday’s cleanup event. The event includes youth volunteers from churches, schools and other civic groups.
An estimated 120 high school and middle school students are expected to participate in the event, titled “Young Leaders Across Wichita.”
MYC aims to raise youth awareness and engagement about community service. It will hold a second community service event in the spring. A previous MYC event called Junior Jumpstart was held in October, and taught area high school and middle school students about healthy lifestyle choices.
