City of Wichita crews will continue to treat local roadways throughout New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day as freezing drizzle and snow is forecast throughout the night.
Workers are applying a mixture of salt and sand to all emergency routes and major thoroughfares in the city. Road treatments began early Monday morning and will continue through midnight tonight. Crews will continue to monitor the wintry conditions and will treat roads accordingly.
The National Weather Service has forecast freezing drizzle and snow throughout Monday. Additional wintry precipitation is expected before midnight, with a chance of snow flurries before noon tomorrow. Temperatures likely will dip below freezing, which may create slick surfaces on streets, sidewalks, highways, bridges, and elevated roadways.
Weather and road conditions are being monitored continuously by the City to adjust to any changes. The Wichita Police Department encourages drivers to exercise caution when traveling in these wintry conditions.
