Library Offers Spring Break Events

Free Events March 16-22 Keep Kids and Teens Busy While School's Out

All events are free. Accommodations for those with special needs are available. Please request at (316) 261-8500 a minimum of 48 hours in advance of the event. Seating is limited. Central Library can accommodate larger groups; call 261-8512. Thanks to the City of Wichita, Wichita Public Library Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities and Friends of the Wichita Public Library for making many of these events possible.

TEENS ONLY! Central’s Teen Hangout
Come hang out with other teens aged 11-17 at the Central Library. Enjoy snacks while you talk with other teens about what you'd like to see, read, do and experience at the library, and get a peek at new books/movies/music and more! (75 minutes)

Pinkalicious Book Party

Become a Mad Scientist with Franny K. Stein

Squishy Circuits: Light it Up with Dough!

Family Pajama-rama Night

Craft to Go: Puzzle Piece Photo Frame
Children aged 4-10 may pick up a packet of materials to create a puzzle piece picture frame at home! Only simple supplies such as scissors, glue or tape will be required. (Available six hours)

TEENS ONLY! Soft Circuits: Fashion with Sparkle (Level ONE)
Isn’t your favorite outfit missing that special something? Come learn how to sew battery-powered circuitry into wristbands, pins, and more with Soft Circuits. We’ll use conductive thread to connect a wearable power source to LED lights that can be sewn into all sorts of fabric. Start here and get the basics to light up your fashion! (Prior knowledge of basic sewing skills not necessary, but helpful.) For ages 14-17. Registration required and begins Wednesday, March 6; call 261-8512. (90 minutes)

Is Prince Charming actually kind? Why is the Big Bad Wolf bad? What happens when fairy tale characters are trapped in a contemporary small town? TEENS ONLY! Soft Circuits: Fashion with Sparkle (Level TWO)
Take your sewing skills and battery-powered circuitry to the next level. Use your knowledge from the first session to start building circuits in parallel, making it possible to connect multiple LEDs to a single power source. This will help you design and construct more complicated couture. Imagine a biking hoodie that could tell pedestrians which way you’re turning or sparkling shoe clips for your next school dance! It’s all possible once you’ve mastered the basics of Soft Circuits. For ages 14-17. Registration required and begins Wednesday, March 6; call 261-8512. (90 minutes)
