The air performer lineup for 2013 Wichita Flight Festival was announced during a Friday news conference at Jabara Airport. Flight Festival officials also unveiled the addition of a new poster contest that is open to the public. The 2013 Wichita Flight Festival will take place Sept. 28-29 at Colonel James Jabara Airport, 3512 N. Webb Road.
“We’re six months away from another world-class air show that will make everyone proud to live in the Air Capital of the World,” said City Council member Lavonta Williams. “We’re especially excited about the poster contest that is giving the community a new way to get involved.”
Saturday and Sunday daytime activities, which include a Kid’s Zone, food concourse and a Fly Market vendor and education area, are free. Tickets for the Saturday night Twilight Air Show and Concert are $10. They are on sale now at WichitaTIX.com or by calling 316-219-4849. Children age 11 and younger will be admitted free.
The headline act for the air shows will be TORA TORA TORA, based out of Midland, Texas. TORA is the Commemorative Air Force's recreation of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The Saturday night concert will feature Hotel California – The Original Eagles Tribute Band. The first 500 people through the gate Saturday night will receive free gifts, compliments of Wichita’s Hometown Chevy Dealers.
The poster contest was added to the festival to help build momentum for the event. It is open to anyone age 18 and older. Artists are asked to be as imaginative as possible as they create poster designs that showcase Wichita as the Air Capital of the World. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, June 28, and the winner will be announced July 15. A $1,000 award will be given to the winning artist, $500 to the second-place artist and $250 to the third. A complete list of requirements and entry forms are posted online at WichitaArts.com.
