The Wichita Fire Department will host a severe weather presentation featuring Mitch Randles, Fire Chief for the City of Joplin, Missouri, and Suzanne Fortin, Meteorologist in Charge for the National Weather Service, Wichita. The presentation will be held from 9 am – 12 pm on March 26 at the Wichita Fire Department Regional Training Center. The Regional Training Center is located at 4780 E. 31st Street South, near the intersection of 31st and Oliver.
Chief Randles will be providing insight, information and lessons learned after his town experienced one of the deadliest tornado strikes in American history. May 22, 2013, marks the second anniversary of an EF5 tornado that barreled through Joplin Missouri. Suzanne Fortin, will provide an overview of the 2012 tornado season and will have information available about what this region can expect for 2013.
The City of Wichita was hit by an EF3 tornado last April, causing significant damage in the south and southeast areas of the city. The Wichita Fire Department encourages the media and area emergency response agencies to have a representative in attendance.
