Event in conjunction with KidFest
A community sustainability event known as the Green Zone will be part of the annual KidFest scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in Expo Hall at Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center in downtown.
Green Zone will feature family-friendly activities that encourage citizens to conserve water, save energy, recycle, improve air quality and garden in the back yard.
Free vehicle-emission testing will be available for attendees who can also order rain barrels and compost bins at reduced prices. The rain barrels and compost bins will be distributed at a later event in June. Two entertaining, environmental videos - “Dog Doogity,” which encourages pet owners to pick up waste and “Recycle Wichita,” which describes Wichita’s residential recycling program - will be featured.
“This will be a great family event, where kids of all ages will have fun learning that saving our environment also results in saving money,” said Becky Lewis, with City of Wichita Environmental Health office.
Participating organizations include Westar, ProKansas Miller, Botanica, Visioneering, and Wichita Initiative to Renew the Environment (WIRE).
