The City of Wichita has proclaimed May is Bike Month. In celebration of Bike Month, the City is highlighting recent improvements that help make traveling by bicycle easier, safer, and more convenient. The featured improvements include:

  • Construction of the new bike path from Garvey Park to Planeview Park. The newly constructed 2.5 mile bike path provides an important connection between the existing Arkansas River Path and the Gypsum Creek Path.
  • Distribution of the new Wichita area bicycle map. The new bicycle map, produced by the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) shows the location of bicycle paths, lanes and bike friendly streets throughout the Wichita area. You can use it to  plan your next bicycle trip.
  • Installation of sharrows on 21st Street. Shared lane markings (a.k.a. sharrows), and accompanying bike lanes have been installed on 21st Street at the 135th Street intersection. The new markings help make the intersection easier and safer to use.
  • Endorsement of the Wichita Bicycle Master Plan. The Wichita City Council endorsed the Wichita Bicycle Master Plan as an official guide for the provision of bicycle infrastructure, programs, and policies by the City. The Plan includes recommendations to make it easier, safer, and more convenient to get around Wichita on a bicycle.
