Help shape the future of Wichita Public Swimming Pools

City residents are being asked to help decide the future of the Edgemoor Park Aquatics Center.

The City of Wichita Park & Recreation Department is asking for public comment to the recently-launched Activate Wichita website, a virtual town hall where residents can offer suggestions and receive responses.

Activate Wichita is a community engagement tool designed to generate public feedback on issues that matter most to people in the Wichita area. The responses will be compiled and analyzed by the City of Wichita Parks and Recreation Department.

“The City needs the community to help guide the next generation of Aquatics Facilities,” said Doug Kupper, Director of Wichita Park & Recreation. “It is very important to get as many people as possible involved in the process.”

The Park & Recreation Department oversees 11 neighborhood public pools located throughout the city. Two pools - Edgemoor and Country Acres - were closed last year due to deteriorating conditions and public safety concerns. Early this year, neighborhood meetings were conducted about the future of Wichita’s public swimming pools.

Residents who commented at the meetings supported neighborhood pools and also suggested upgrades such as lazy rivers, sunshade areas, water slides, and zero depth entry access.
