Active military to receive free admission at Cowtown this summer

Old Cowtown Museum is joining more than 2,000 museums across the United States to offer free admission this summer to military personnel and their families through Blue Star Museums, a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. The program runs from Memorial Day, May 27, through Labor Day, Sept. 2.

The free admission program is open to active duty U.S. military personnel in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps. Military identification is necessary; up to five family members may accompany each military member.

All summer long, Cowtown will offer Blue Star Museums participants the opportunity to take guided and self-guided tours of its 23 acres with 54 historic and re-created buildings, participate in education programs, interact with interpreters dressed in period clothing and attend communitywide events and re-enactments that include “Frozen in Time” on June 15 and “Age of the Gunfighter” on Aug. 31.

There are four participating Blue Star Museums in Wichita: Cowtown, Botanica, the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University and the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum.

Blue Star Museums provides the opportunity for the nation’s active duty military personnel and their families to enjoy the nation's cultural heritage and learn more about their new communities after completing a military move.
