City of Wichita officials are hosting a social media town hall budget meeting from 1:30-3 p.m. today, June 27, on the 9th floor (Training Room II) of City Hall, 455 N. Main. Residents can ask questions on the City of Wichita Facebook page or through Twitter at #ictbudget.
Media are encouraged to attend. Mayor Carl Brewer will attend today’s social media town hall meeting.
A second social media town hall budget meeting is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. It will include Vice Mayor Pete Meitzner.
The social media town hall meetings are part of the City’s efforts to include residents in decisions regarding the 2014-15 Proposed Budget. The virtual meetings support the City’s public engagement and transparency goals. They follow several City Council budget workshops and a June 26 public budget meeting featuring District Advisory Boards and Wichita Independent Neighborhood members.
Residents may email budget questions to email@example.com, an email address that accepts budget questions every day. Residents can also provide budget feedback by visiting Activate Wichita at www.activate-wichita.org, a virtual town hall where people can vote on budget options and submit ideas on various community topics. Responses on the site are recorded, analyzed, and used for decision making by the City.
The City Council is scheduled to officially adopt the 2014-15 Proposed Budget - a more than $500 million spending plan - at its Aug.13 meeting. For the latest budget information, please visit http://tinyurl.com/l8eo26l.
