7/16/2013
Valerie Wise, Air Service & Business Development Manager | 316-946-4700
A Kansas Honor Flight will leave Wichita Mid-Continent Airport on Wednesday, July 17, carrying 23 World War II veterans, one Korean War veteran, and one Vietnam veteran to Washington, DC. It will mark the fourth such flight this year.

The flight will depart from Wichita at 6:10 a.m. on Southwest Airlines - the official airline sponsor of the Honor Flight Organization since 2008 - for a two-night stay in the nation’s capital.  They will return at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, July 19.  Media and the public are invited to greet the heroes and welcome them home.

While in Washington, veterans will visit the WWII Memorial, the Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Ft. McHenry.

The trip has been organized by Kansas Honor Flight, Inc., whose mission is to transport America's veterans to Washington, DC to visit the memorials at no costs. World War II veterans have priority on the trips, followed by Korean War veterans and Vietnam War veterans. Their guardians, who pay their own travel expenses, accompany each veteran to ensure safe travel. Public donations fund the trips. Please visit www.kansashonorflight.org to learn more about the all-expense paid trip.

Additional trips are scheduled throughout the summer and fall on Southwest Airlines.   These trips are made possible through the cooperation and coordination of the airlines, TSA, Ampco Parking, HMS Host, and Wichita Airport Authority staff.

“Mid-Continent staffers are appreciative to play a role in honoring veterans,” Airport Director Victor White said.
