City of Wichita officials will host a second social media town hall budget meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. today in Training Room II on the 9th floor of City Hall, 455 N. Main. Media are invited.
The City’s second social media town hall comes a day after City Manager Robert Layton presented the 2014-15 Proposed Budget during a regular City Council Meeting. The proposed budget is a nearly $500 million spending plan that addresses public safety, quality of life, cultural arts, economic development and other proposed expenditures and reductions. Details about the budget are available at www.wichita.gov
under tab #5.
During today’s social media town hall, residents may ask questions on the City of Wichita Facebook page or through Twitter at #ictbudget. The digital town hall follows several City Council budget workshops, DAB neighborhood meetings and a WIN board meeting.
The City held its first social media town hall the afternoon of June 27. The various public budget presentations support the City’s public engagement and transparency goals. City Council members want to hear from more residents before they adopt the budget at their Aug. 13 meeting, a date set by state statute.
Residents can also provide budget feedback by visiting Activate Wichita at www.activate-wichita.com
, a virtual town hall where individuals can submit ideas on various community topics including the annual budget, air quality, water usage, and resources at the Wichita Public Library. Responses on the site are recorded, analyzed, and used for decision making by the City.
