CityArts to host Kids Art-A-Palooza Saturday
CityArts will host Kids Art-A-Palooza 2013 from 1-4 p.m., tomorrow, Aug. 24 at CityArts. The event is sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to give pediatric cancer patients the opportunity to express themselves through art. The media are invited to attend. CityArts is located at 334 N. Mead.
Liz Daniel, youth education director at CityArts, will lead a variety of art projects for approximately 10 children who are currently undergoing cancer treatment and their siblings. The theme for the activity is “Mood and Reflection.”
“As well as being therapeutic, the activities are designed to help the children see that their identity and who they are comes from the inside, not the outside,” Daniel said.
The projects include:
- Picasso-style paintings. Each child will paint one half of a face to show how they feel on the outside and the other half to show how they feel on the inside.
- Gardening project. The children will work with soil that has been show in research to be therapeutic when battling cancer.
Canvas painting. The children will choose a word that describes how they feel when they are at home, tape it onto the canvas and then paint over it.
- Pottery writing.
