Honor Flight Returns Friday

Valerie Wise, Air Service & Business Development Manager | 316-946-4700
A Kansas Honor Flight will return to Mid-Continent airport at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.  The media and public are invited to greet the 25 World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans who left Wichita Mid-Continent Airport on Wednesday on the all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
The mission of the honor flights is to transport America's veterans to the nation’s capitol to visit the memorials at no cost to them, with a traveling priority for WWII Veterans, then Korean War and Vietnam War veterans. Travel guardians, who pay their own travel expenses, accompany each veteran to ensure safe travel. Contributions from the public provide the necessary funding for this trip. Attendees who want to welcome veterans home should arrive no later than 11:15 a.m. on Friday in case the flight arrives early.  Because of construction, parking is recommended in the Park and Ride lot.
This week’s honor flight marks the fifth of 2013. The flights are sponsored by Southwest Airlines, the official airline sponsor of the Honor Flight Organization since 2008.

These trips are made possible through the cooperation and coordination of the airlines, TSA, ABM Parking, HMS Host, and Wichita Airport Authority staff.  “It is with great pride that the Airport can play a part in honoring these Veterans,” said Airport Director Victor White.
