Historic Preservation Public Meeting

10/2/2013
John Schlegel or Kathy Morgan | 316-268-4425 or 316-268-4392
The Wichita City Council will hold a public forum regarding historic preservation statutes at 10 a.m. on October 15 in the City Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall, 455 N. Main.

Residents are invited to attend and provide comment.

The purpose of the meeting is review City of Wichita options in response to a change in state law affecting historic preservation. During its 2013 Legislative Session, legislators repealed a long-standing provision in the state’s historic preservation statutes, which provided for a review of changes to any property within 500 feet of a property listed on either the state or national historic registers.

The repealed long-standing provision was known as an Environs Review. In Wichita, the reviews were done by the City’s Historic Preservation Board.

Although the review provision was repealed statewide, the Legislature gave local governments the option of adopting local ordinances that allowed the reviews
