The Wichita Park Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for the O.J. Watson Park Steering committee. The 11-member committee will assist with the development of a master plan to determine how the park can best serve the Wichita community while operating at 100% cost recovery.
Applications will be accepted online through Oct. 31. Applications will be reviewed in early November and the slate of prospective steering committee members will be presented to the Park Board in mid-November for consideration. Applications will be accepted at http://www.wichita.gov/Government/Departments/Park/Pages/OJWatson.aspx.
Steering committee members must live within Wichita city limits, have an interest in bettering the community and demonstrate an ability to think creatively. The committee will meet once in November and December and bi-weekly in January, February and March. Members also will be expected to attend open house events in December and February.
O.J. Watson Park is a 119 acre site along the Arkansas River in south Wichita. The park includes a 40-acre lake for fishing and pedal boats and also offers a variety of recreational opportunities such as mini golf, train rides, pony rides and volleyball. Public engagement and input regarding the attractions and investments is a key piece of the O.J. Watson Park Master Plan.
