Annual events bring past holiday traditions to life
 
Nowhere else but Old Cowtown Museum can the holiday season come to life exactly as it did more than 100 years ago with festive music, dancing and priceless family moments. The public is invited to experience holiday traditions of yesteryear during Cowtown’s upcoming Victorian Christmas Celebration and Breakfast With Santa events. Don’t miss the opportunity to continue or create new holiday traditions that the entire family can enjoy. Cowtown is located at 1865 W. Museum Blvd.
 
Victorian Christmas Celebration, 6-9 p.m., Dec. 6-7 and 13-14
Admission: $7.75, adults; $6, youth ages 12-17; $5.50, children ages 4-11; free for children under 4 and Museum members.
This old-fashioned Christmas celebration has plenty of activities to stir up excitement within people of all ages as they interact with costumed interpreters and are immersed in holiday traditions and customs that originated in the Victorian era. Activities include:
 
  • Photos with Santa Claus in Heller Cabin;
  • Children's crafts;
  • Re-enactments of “Twas the Night Before Christmas" in the Schoolhouse;
  • Dancing by the Dixie Lee Saloon Girls in the Saloon and the Entre Nous Dancers in Turnverein Hall;
  • Mandolin music by Calvin DeBeverly;
  • Magician Roscoe Riff;
  • Special appearances by the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance (Dec. 6 and 14), Acoustic Treasures (Dec. 7 and 13) and Dave Anderson     (Dec. 7 and 14) in the Visitor’s Center;
  • Food and holiday decor/gifts for sale and more!
 
Breakfast With Santa, 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21
Admission: $12.95, adults; $7.95, youth ages 4-15
A chance for children and their parents to share holiday cheer as they complete crafts, send personal telegrams to Mrs. Claus and the elves at the North Pole and enjoy a full breakfast that includes French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage biscuits and fruit salad. The highlight of the morning is Santa Claus arriving at the Visitor’s Center by stagecoach. Reservations can be made by calling (316) 350-3323. Reservations are required.
