Council Member Williams to chair NLC committee

Wichita City Council Member Lavonta Williams has been appointed to chair the 2014 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee of the National League of Cities (NLC).
The committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. The appointment was announced by NLC President Chris Coleman, mayor, St. Paul, Minn.
As chair of the committee,  Council Member Williams will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, the executive branch and at home.
The committee will convene during the NLC’s Congressional City Conference March 8-12, 2014, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Mike Wojcik, councilmember, Rochester, Minn. and Craig Thurmond, mayor, Broken Arrow, Okla.
