Wichita Transit will be holding a public hearing on Thursday to receive input from residents on the Westside Service Improvements Project. The hearing is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room B of Building 200 at the Wichita Transit office, 777 E. Waterman.
Wichita Transit proposes to eliminate the Westside Connector route and replace it with two new routes including the West Maple route extended and the West Central route. In addition, Wichita Transit will be implementing a neighborhood feeder service in selected areas on the west side of Wichita. The proposed improvements are scheduled to become effective April 12, 2014.
The Westside Service Improvements are part of the overall vision for improvement of transit throughout the community. The service improvements were developed based on public input that was provided in 2012 as part of the Community Outreach Study, input received from Mind Mixers, analysis of recommendations in the Wichita Transit Long-Range Plan, and a series of public meetings held throughout the community in November 2013. In September 2013, Wichita Transit was awarded three years of Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds totaling $800,000 per year to fund this project.
