Smoke May Affect Wichita Area Air

 Baylee Cunningham, Public Works & Utilities | (316) 268-8350
Range burning in the Flint Hills, east of the Wichita area, combined with local weather conditions may cause smoke to move into the city late this evening and tomorrow, City of Wichita environmental officials said Thursday.

Smoke has the potential to negatively impact air quality which could cause the city to go out of compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for the day. Members in sensitive groups, such as those with asthma, COPD or other forms of respiratory disorders should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Residents are encouraged to Be Air Aware by following BeAirAwareKS on Twitter and Instagram for air quality tips and updates to the air quality forecast. City officials are monitoring air quality and will update the public if conditions worsen. The community will be advised of conditions through the City’s Facebook page; the City’s web site (, Cox Cable Channel 7; and by following BeAirAwareKS on Twitter and Instagram.
