Homeless Prevention and Re-housing

Funding Program - Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)
Funding Amount - $1,168,490

HPRP provides assistance to persons who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.  Assistance can be used for such costs as rent, utilities and moving costs but cannot be used for mortgage payments.  The City has contracted with two community agencies to manage the program.

In the first round of applications, Housing and Community Services Department began receiving applications on November 2nd, 2010 and had to stop receiving applications by close of business November 3, 2010.  Over 300 people had applied as of that time.

A total of 108 households have been approved for assistance.  A new round of applications are taken the second full week of each month. 

New Sidewalks and Storefronts

Funding Program - Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-R)
Funding Amount - $764,126

CDBG-R funds will be used to finance sidewalk repairs and a commercial building facade improvement program in CDBG-R eligible areas. 

Housing and Community Services Department received over 40 applications.  Applications for the facade program are being reviewed and grants will be awarded soon.

114,259 sq ft of sidewalk have been replaced.

Furnace Upgrades for Public Housing

Funding Program - Public Housing Capital Fund
Funding Amount - $1,265,098

The capital fund is to be used for updating rental units and management systems in the Public Housing Program.  The City will use funds to replace aged furnace and air conditioning units with high-efficiency  units in 349 single-family dwellings and 50 garden apartments.

All units have been received.  The project is proceeding with 98% of the installation project completed.

Improving Neighborhoods and Public Safety

Funding Program - Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)
Funding Amount - $1,736,332

CSBG funds are targeted to low-income neighborhoods in need of additional support.  The funds will be used to improve services at neighborhood City Halls, public safety and neighborhood safety.  Career Development Office has begun implementing all projects.
