Claims for Damage

All claims for damage filed against the City are reviewed and processed by Law Department staff. The review ascertains the relative merits of the claim and staff attempts to settle claims when appropriate.

If you wish to make a claim for damages against the City, download and print the cover letter and Claims for Damage form.

Please complete the form in its entirety (please write legibly). In addition, your claim MUST include documentation to support the amount of your claim. Documentation may include invoices, paid receipts, bills, or repair estimates. You may include photographs, if available.

Once your claim has been received, it will be sent to the department involved for investigation. The results will be sent to the City's Law Department where it will be assigned to an attorney for review. Upon completion of the investigation, you will be notified in writing of the outcome which may be one of the following:

  1. The claim is denied because there was no negligence by a City employee; therefore, the City is under no legal obligation to pay the damages;
  2. The City will offer to pay the claim; or
  3. Another resolution as the facts may dictate.
