The Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) was formed in 2008 by Mayor Carl Brewer to provide youth with the opportunity to weigh in on community issues and learn about their City government. In addition, MYC members develop leadership skills through coordinating projects focusing on local policy issues, and engage with their community through public service at local events. In the past, MYC members have hosted town hall meetings, led drives for families in need, held park clean-ups, and discussed youth-relevant issues with their local and state legislators. In the fall, three or four members are selected to represent Wichita's Youth Delegation at the National League of Cities (NLC) City Summit and in the spring organizes Youth Leaders Across Wichita (YLAW), a city-wide community service event for teens.
