The Wichita Water and Sewer Department and the Wichita Police Department would like to remind citizens practice caution when strangers come to their homes. There have been some reports of people posing as water inspectors and asking to come into private homes.

In most cases, Water and Sewer employees do not need to enter into a residence. If a Water and Sewer Department employee were to knock on a resident’s door, that employee would be wearing a uniform shirt and would present a picture I.D. If residents are suspicious, they should call the Water and Sewer Department to verify that a City employee was sent to their home.

The only Water and Sewer Department employees who enter homes would be inspecting for illegal sump connections or other types of cross connections, or they would be responding to a water quality inquiry requested by the homeowner. Employees never force their way into homes.
