Mayor Knight and the City of Wichita are working to educate citizens of the Earned Income Tax Credit Program. There are hundreds of millions of dollars that remain unclaimed by low income workers and small business owners when filing federal income tax. These dollars will directly benefit citizens of Wichita. Interesting Facts 10% of those eligible for these federal dollars do not know about it and therefore do not apply for it. Kansas is one of 12 states to offer a similar program. 20% of those eligible do not apply for the State’s EIC. The EIC is retroactive for the past three years. What this means is that even if you have never applied before, you will be able to receive up to 3 years worth back. For example, if you had not applied before and were owed $3,000 in federal dollars for one year, you could receive $9,000 for the past three years.
