The Wichita Police Department is one of 16 cities chosen to be featured in a national promotion for police departments. Mattel Inc, the toy company, is producing new Hot Wheels "Cop Rods" cars with logos of 16 police departments across the country. This is Mattel's second series of Cop Rods, featuring custom cars with graphics from the different police departments. The WPD provided Mattel with scans of the WPD badge and patch, as well as police car decals and a series of photographs of the patrol cars. A limited edition of only 2,500 of each car was produced and should soon be in toy stores nationwide. "We are very excited about this program," said Acting Chief John Hershberger. "We’re hoping these cars will provide very positive exposure for the Wichita Police Department and the City as a whole."
