The Harry Street bridge over the Arkansas River has reopened this afternoon after an inspection by Professional Engineering Consultants, or PEC, a local engineering firm.

The bridge was closed this morning following a fire on the west riverbank beneath the bridge. PEC found the bridge to be structurally sound. Street maintenance crews took advantage of the temporary closure to perform some routine joint repairs and crack sealing on the bridge surface.

PEC is scheduled to perform detailed inspections of all city bridges later this fall. Repairs to damaged concrete on the Harry Street bridge will be assessed as part of that process.

The Public Works & Utilities Department provides the design and construction of City infrastructure, maintenance of the City’s street and traffic control systems, water and sewer services, storm water management, and environmental health code enforcement and support.
