Advance Plans Committee Summary of Meeting 9:00 am, August 27, 2007 Attendance Committee and MAPC Members: Elizabeth Bishop, Bud Hentzen, Ron Marnell, John McKay, Mitch Mitchell, Darrell Downing, Hoyt Hillman MAPD staff: Christy Askew, Stephen Banks, Dave Barber, Scott Knebel, John Schlegel Other: Irene Hart, Suzie Ahlstrand Discussion Summary 1. The Advance Plans Committee approved the minutes of the July 26, 2007 Committee meeting. 2. Suzie Ahlstrand provided an overview of the Visoneering Wichita initiative, highlighting the level of community participation to date in the process. Over 16,000 people have directly participated in this initiative. Suzie explained that 14 strategic alliances involving more that 500 people have been formed to focus on implementing particular aspects of the December 2004 Visioneering Plan. In fact, a group will be convening this week to discuss updating an Arts and Cultural Plan for the region. Suzie mentioned that a re- gathering or verification process is planned in 2009 to ensure the December 2004 document remains current and relevant. Bringing people to the table and out of their ‘silos’ is key to communication. The Committee agreed that the Visioneering Wichita organization would be a key partner in generating community input and feedback into an update to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Comprehensive Plan. 3. Committee members reviewed the summary evaluation sheet prepared by staff that itemizes the ‘land use planning-related’ elements contained in the December 2004 Visioneering document, and assesses the level of consistency/similarity with related elements contained in the Comprehensive Plan. Following this review, there was general agreement amongst the Committee members that the current Wichita-Sedgwick County Comprehensive Plan is consistent with the ‘land use planning-related’ elements contained in the December 2004 Visioneering document. All agreed that it was important that the Comprehensive Plan set priorities for the City and County CIP projects. 4. The next meeting of the Advance Plans Committee will be held on September 12th from 9-11:00 a.m. to continue discussions on the desired focus of the next Comprehensive Plan. 5. Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
